Madder red · from a root

Red that grew in the ground.

Our reds come from madder root and pomegranate, knotted by hand into rugs that soften with every year.

Our story

We don't trade rugs. We weave them.

One family workshop, wool we choose ourselves, dyes we cook ourselves.

The craft

From a sheep's back to your floor

Four stages, all done by hand. A large rug takes most of a year.

  1. 01

    Wool & spinning

Fleece from mountain sheep, washed and spun by hand into strong, uneven yarn.

  2. 02

    Natural dyeing

Madder root for red, indigo for blue, weld and pomegranate rind for yellows.

  3. 03

    Knotting

Row by row from the bottom, following the naqsheh: one square on paper, one knot on the loom.

  4. 04

    Washing & finishing

Washed in running water, sun-dried, clipped and finished, then numbered and documented.

Visit

Come and walk on them.

Rugs are bought with the feet as much as the eyes. See the colours in daylight, feel the pile, turn them over. No pressure, tea included.
